Above the Golden State first came out with their single “Sound of Your Name” in 2008, with their self-titled debut album Above the Golden State [Sparrow Records] launched on July 22 in the same year. Listening to their album, you’d find the undertones of the band’s musical influences ranging from Weezer, Five Iron Frenzy, Delirious?, The Beatles and Duke Ellington.
Hailing from Portland, Oregon, Above the Golden State grooves with lead singer Michael Watson, dummer Brook Mosser, and keyboardist Tim Aylward. All three have previously partnered with some of the best Christian artists such as Telecast, Falling Up, Kutless, Shawn MacDonald, and Paul Wright. As a band, they also joined Starfield’s I Will Go tour in 2008.
We can definitely look forward to Above the Golden State’s rise in the Christian music scene with their eyes focused on God.
Watson states on the band’s Facebook page that, ““Above The Golden State has no desire to bring glory to itself but to join in with you and everyone else to glorify God together. We know not to find our worth in anything other than Jesus Christ. We are in this together. We are the church, the body of Christ; this music is to fix the ‘gaze of our soul’ on Jesus, our Hope of Glory! These songs are meant to be sung in the heart and mind of the listener, like a soundtrack to our lives.”
